Spain, Italy and Morocco

Spain, Italy and Morocco

The following information was provided by one of our students from Japan.

“I have visited Tunisia, Morocco and went on a desert adventure there and then onto Italy and stayed for one week in Naples and Pompeii, followed by a trip to Spain. If you are thinking about visiting these places, I hope the following information will be of interest to you as they have been to me.

Spain

In Spain I visited the city of Barcelona. This is a very green city. There is an enormous amount of site-seeing on offer to travelers. I visited the Picasso Museum and Gaudi. Both are spectacular structures and very famous. Don’t miss it!

I stayed in a local hotel in their peak season and the hotels can be very expensive starting from 60 Euro a day. The cheaper hotels start from 30 Euros a day. The food is very good, very tasty, reasonably priced and I would recommend tasting the food with the local wine. One bottle of wine ranges about 6 Euros.

Barcelona has some of the best Ham sausages in the world and I tried the Catalonian sausage. It was a little salty, but with a very nice flavor.

Compared to Egypt, Spain can be quite expensive for the average traveler. I estimate that I spent around 30 Euros a day for personal expenses.

You’ll find the Southern part of Spain to be different from its Northern Spain.

I visited Cordova, which is a city in Andalucia, Southern Spain. There is a big Church called Cordoba that is located in the city. This beautiful structure was formerly a mosque and certainly worth the effort to see it.

Still in Southern Spain, I visited Grenada. The local buildings there are a brilliant white in color and you immediately notice the contrast with the deep blue sky. Many small villages exist in these mountainous regions and the locals are very friendly.

Italy

The people in Naples seem to be more westernized and tend to live a simpler lifestyle. They have a love of life and food. I found the food to be very delicious, especially since it is often made fresh. These of course include Pasta, Pizza & Spaghetti.

I found the food prices in Italy to be around the same as Spain.

I wouldn’t recommend using a taxi in Naples as the price can be a little expensive as some drivers tend to be a little dishonest. You may be driven a longer distance that what is actually necessary. You may also be asked to pay extra money for the transportation of your luggage which is in addition to the fare itself.

I then traveled through the Strait of Gibraltar by ferry. The Strait connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea and therefore separates Spain from Morocco.

Morocco

This country, as with Italy and Spain is also rich in history and civilization. The people of Morocco can speak a mixture of Arabic and French and may seem a little harsher to deal with than other people in the world. I found that most people from Morocco speak the official Arabic language. To deal with them may require a little extra patience that what is needed.”
