Metropolitan Museum…. A Constellation of World Culture
What do you know about the world museums? Are you interested in exploring them?
Do you want to visit a museum? So following is a brief description of one of the most famous museums which you can visit and watch antiquities and pieces of splendid artwork.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest and most renowned museums in the world. It was established in the late 19th century and is located in north Manhattan, in parallel with the New York Garden. Notable for its cuneiform and Gothic style, it features multiple and diverse cultures, including that of Assyria, Egypt, Florence, Guinea Bissau, New Guinea and Tibet in China.
The Metropolitan Museum covers an area of more than 2, 000,000ft2. It houses over 3 million antiquities of ancient and modern art from across the world as well as musical instruments and military equipment dating back to very ancient times. It also contains 36, 000 antiquities of the Egyptian ancient art.
At the beginning, the Museum used to feature European art and few American arts only. Later, it started to accommodate large numbers of antiquities and artistic items, in addition to two pavilions for American decoration and design reflecting the different development stages of American art.
The Metropolitan Museum is considered to be the largest museum in the United States in general and New York in particular. Besides showcasing splendid items and antiquities, the museum also organizes some artistic shows that may, sometimes, belong to some historical times, countries or continents.
The Museum is divided into pavilions that are partitioned into large halls featuring European Medieval art, the Egyptian ancient art, ceramic works, Chinese potteries, statues as well as portraits of ancient Egypt’s kings.
There is the European Painting Hall that showcases the classical works of European painters, starting from the Age of Renaissance to the Impressionism School
Among the Museum’s attractions, there are the groups of art fans, most notable of which is the Robert Lehmann Group that features many works of art, including those of Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, a Dutch baroque artist and one of the greatest painters in Western art. We can also enjoy the artwork of the Spanish painter, Goya and the Greek painter, Girgo
Finally, visitors can go to the photography hall which features a number of photographs belonging to the mid 19th century until 1946.
